The illustrious house of Achards is known in the history of France from the year 640. It comes from the Ancient Princes of Montpellier, from whose roots the blessed Saint Roch originated.
The Noble and ancient House ACHARD originates from Poitiers, whose first coat of arms was, D’argent, à trois fasces de gueules. (see No. 1).

But in the year 1202, Pierre Achard, second of the name, who was created Knight and assisted in the same year in the defense of the city of Bordeaux, married the only daughter and heiress of the Seignieur of Pommiers. He took his arms which he added to his own, namely D’Argent, à trois doubles triangles de sable et placing them in chief of his escutcheon as follows. Coupé au premier aux armoiries de Pommiers et au second aux Armoiries Achard. (see No. 2):

The Coat of Arms of the Maison Achard, experienced several further changes duer to substitutions which came into the family. These substitutions led to various changes and additions of Names and Coats of Arms to the Maison Achard. For example, the Achard Joumart, who were obliged to bear the name and coat of arms of the noble house of Joumart (see No. 3), by virtue of the substitution, made on December 20, 1441 by Noble Audoin Joumart in favour d’Audoin Achard, his nephew : His descendants quartered their old arms, with those of Joumart (see. No. 4).

More recently, François Joumart Des Achard, son of Gaspard Joumard des Achard and of Gabrielle Tison D’Argence, was also obliged to take the name and coat of arms of the House of Tison D'Argence which are, D’or, à deux lions passants de gueules, set one above the other, with a three pendant label of the same, set in chief. (see No. 5), by virtue of a substitution of property made to him by his mother's parents about the year 1610.

His descendants quartered, on the first and fourth of Joumart; on the second and third of Tison D'Argence and on the whole the escutcheon of the Achard coat of arms, set in abyss (see No. 6).

Achard de Ferrus
The ACHARD name exists in the Dauphiné, under the name of ACHARD de FERRUS. Their arms are gueules à trois heaumes d’argent, grilles et embellis d’or.
N… ACHARD, surnamed de FERRUS, was living in 1671 andcame from this family. He was seigneur de SAINTE COLOMBE, de CHAUVAC de SALES et de PENAFORT. He settled in ORSIERES en in the district of GAP. Le surname de FERRUS came from an allaince made between this ACHARD branch and the heiress og the de FERRUS family.
There are a few branches of the ACHARD house in the Comtat VENAISSIN, bearing the same coat of arms (see le Nobiliaire du DAUPHINE par ALLARD, printed in GRENOBLE in 1671, pages N° 2 et 3) (see also l’armorial de MOISSEAU, p. 20).
