Frederick was awarded the Military Cross for conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He made daring reconnaissances in the front line on three separate days under most violent machine-gun and rifle fire, obtaining much valuable information. On one occasion, at a critical moment, he rallied a company of infantry whose officers had become casualties. Throughout the operations he displayed great skill and courage.
